A southern belle from Georgia turned multi-published cookbook author, Susan did not set out to become a healthy lifestyle expert, becoming The Bikini Chef specializing in “figure flattering flavors” and promoting a healthy lifestyle actually found her along life’s journey.
“My first passion was always journalism,” says Susan. “Cooking was something I enjoyed to relax having learned cooking and nutrition essentials from my mom. Becoming The Bikini Chef just sort of happened to me as a result of living a healthy lifestyle and setting positive examples for others.”
Beginning as an intern for the CNN Atlanta Medical, Science, Nutrition, & Entertainment department, Susan fell in love with broadcasting but life sent her on a different adventure leading her to Los Angeles where ultimately she would combine her passion for journalism with her love for cooking. “I would go home everyday and cook. Finally, I decided to write a cookbook!” exclaims Susan. Thus Cooking With Susan, Southern Family Favorites and The Bikini Chef was born. “Southern cooking is not always what I have now termed ‘bikini cuisine,’” explains Susan. “I started teaching healthy recipes and sharing what I do to live a healthy ‘bikini’ lifestyle. My students began calling me ‘The Bikini Chef’ because both my recipes and my lifestyle are healthy so we can all look fabulous in our bikinis.” “I love it. I want to shout out to everyone that being ‘bikini’ is fun, everyone can do it, and the food tastes GOOD!,” exclaims Susan. “Healthy food and a healthy lifestyle is NOT boring.”
To hone her professional culinary skills, Chef Susan Irby jetted to a chefs culinary dream, Italy and France. “Working in Florence, Italy and Bourgogne, France was the experience of a lifetime,” says Susan. “The fundamentals of my now termed ‘bikini cuisine’ came from working with fresh herbs, fresh citrus fruits, and using them as the foundation for flavor. They are perfect ingredients because they are packed with flavor and nutrients but are not packed with calories and fat.”
Today, Chef Susan Irby the Bikini Chef is author of seven books including Substitute Yourself Skinny and Boost Your Metabolism. Susan hosts a weekly radio show, The Bikini Lifestyle with Susan Irby the Bikini Chef, on KABC 790 AM in Los Angeles of which guests include Wolfgang Puck, Venus Williams, Billy Bush, Chef Michael Mina, Chef Ben Ford, and Divya Gugnani of MSNBC. Susan Irby the Bikini Chef is a Celebrity Emcee, Host, and Judge for culinary competitions, Public Speaker as a fitness expert, healthy lifestyle expert, culinary expert, and successful entrepreneur and is a favorite among media.
