From an early age it was clear that Julie Hasson was destined to get people in the kitchen cooking. She was born with an incredible passion for food, spending every moment she could in the kitchen with her mother baking madeleines and bread. Her passion for cooking continued by collecting recipes on summer vacations and teaching friends how to make chocolate mousse. Julie even wrote a column in her junior high school paper sharing recipes for healthy smoothies and chocolate chip cookies. From her first Easy Bake Oven to her present Viking range, Julie has always been at home in the kitchen.

Julie is the author of 5 cookbooks, 125 Best Chocolate Chip Recipes, released in December 2003, 125 Best Chocolate Recipes, released September 2004 and 125 Best Cupcake Recipes, released April 2005. Julie’s first book, 125 Best Chocolate Chip Recipes, received praise and accolades, winning the Gourmand Award in 2003 for Best Chocolate Book in the English language. She also wrote 300 Best Chocolate Recipes, which was released in the Fall of 2006 and The Complete Book Of Pies, which hit bookstore shelves in Fall of 2008. Her lastest cookbook, Vegan Diner, will hit bookshelves in Spring, 2011.

Julie has contributed extensive recipes and articles to Bon Appétit, Cooking Light, Vegetarian Times and Family Fun Magazine, as well as internet websites, newspaper articles and frequent quotes on her expert opinion.

Additionally, Julie has worked as a spokesperson for national corporate clients on their ad campaigns. In 2005, she was one of the hosts of Comcast’s “15 and Done”” cooking show. Julie is currently the Entertaining Editor on “Better Portland,” and appears on-air several times a month. She is also the host of the highly acclaimed internet cooking show, “Everyday Dish.”

Julie honed her passion for teaching cooking at an early age, inspiring fellow middle school students to cook with monthly recipes in the school newspaper. She attended cooking school in Los Angeles where she received her formal culinary training and worked at the famed Patina restaurant. She was then called into service as a private chef for high profile and celebrity clients catering to extensive tastes and palates.

Julie went on to develop recipes on a large scale for her own bakery, distributing award winning products to grocery chains, famed coffee shops and celebrity clients. From her commercial baking practices and catering experiences, she developed her own distinct style of keeping things simple. Through her enthusiasm for flavor and zest for efficiency, Julie developed a language best described as minimum fuss with maximum results. She gives us the benefit of her experience, demonstrating simplified techniques and showing us the tools to get great results every time.

Julie currently runs a hip little food cart called Native Bowl, in Portland, Oregon with her husband Jay.
