The Parisian macaron is the stylishly light French confection tipped to be the new cupcake and finally hitting the glossies outside France.
The art of making macarons is highly respected in France — and they can be a challenge for the beginner — but the process is made fun and easy in this colorful new book from Jill Colonna.
Learn how to make all the classic flavors, and some dazzlingly unusual ones too. Also included is a delicious and unique macaron recipe for those with nut allergies.
Jill guides you simply and precisely through each step, and reveals some of her secrets so that you too can make macarons like the French.

Jill Colonna was born and educated in Edinburgh, Scotland. Starting out as a professional flute player she furthered her studies at Strathclyde University’s Graduate Business School in Glasgow, where she met her French husband.
Since 1992 Jill has lived and worked in France as marketer, musician and teacher. During the past 17 years, however, she has pursued a cooking passion, learning from the French and experimenting in the kitchen.
When she first came to Paris and tasted her first “gerbet” macaron, it was love at first bite. Since then she has become a macaronivore. As the best macarons tend to be expensive to buy, over the last few years she has risen to the challenge of making picture-perfect macarons at home.
Creating perfection and inventing new tastes is vital for Jill, and her macarons are in great demand from friends, family and associates. Even the French are impressed! And – after much experimentation – she has also invented a nut-free macaron for those with nut allergies.
Jill is particularly health-conscious. Having gradually adapted to the serious non-snacking but fun French gourmet way of life, she has proved that there’s no need for diets if you eat well.
A busy Mum, Jill loves entertaining. When she’s rarely out of the kitchen, you may just find her sniffing out seasonal produce at the local market. She lives near Versailles with her French-Corsican husband and two young daughters.
Now she shares her experiences and shows you that macarons are so much easier to make than you think. What’s more – they’re fun.
