Kelly Peloza

Author Profile

Kelly Peloza is a consistently motivated art school student who is always creating something, whether it’s drawing a portrait, taking a photograph, or crafting a cookie recipe. She values the aesthetics of the world and the art of baking is no exception. Her impetus to create a cookie book was to show the world that vegan baking, cookies in particular, needn’t be inaccessible or an underwhelming experience for the palate. After becoming vegan at age fourteen and becoming interested in baking, she soon formed the opinion that instructing bakers to use “egg replacer” or tofu in a recipe was no way to introduce vegan baking to the general population. Thereafter, she began formulating her own recipes with an emphasis on accessibility and deliciousness. She is author of the cookzine, Vegan Candyland, and runs the Etsy shop, Seitan Beats Your Meat, where her zine and other items are sold.

Kelly was a featured chef at Chicago VeganMania 2010, her photographs appeared in the March 2010 issue of Vegetarian Times, and she was featured on the peta2 blog, InsideMilwaukee’s Food Crush, Girl’s Life Magazine website, The Travel Connoisseurs, and VegCookin.

Kelly currently resides in Milwaukee, goes to school for photography, and writes the writes the blogs The Vegan Cookie Connoisseur and Seitan Beats Your Meat, photo documenting her every creation for the world to see. The book, The Vegan Cookie Connoisseur: Over 140 Simply Delectable Recipes to Treat the Eyes and Taste Buds is available on the blog, on Amazon, and bookstores worldwide!
